http://www.apple.com/trailers/independent/murderball/lg_vid.html
This movie is a must see!!! Like any other great sports story, Murderball features fierce rivalry, stopwatch suspense, dazzling athletic prowess, larger-than-life personalities and triumph over daunting odds. But "Murderball," the original name for the full-contact sport now known as quad rugby, is played by quadriplegics in armored wheelchairs. 'Murderball' is a story like no other, told by men who see the world from a different angle. Quad rugby players have suffered injuries that have left them with limited function in all four limbs. Whether by car wreck, gunshot, fist fight, rogue bacteria or any of an endless list of possible misadventures, quad rugby's young men have found their lives dramatically altered. Watching them in action -- both on court and off -- smashes every stereotype one has ever had about the handicapped. It also redefines what it is to be a man, what it is to live a full life, and what it is to be a winner.

National Council for Sopport on Disability Issues

Founded in 1995, the National Council for Support on Disability Issues is a not-for-profit, grassroots organization. The organization has recently changed their name in order to reach out to individuals of all ages. Originally created to strengthen the legal rights through pro bono court cases, and facilitate communication between student groups, NCSD has now expanded to reach other goals:

  • Provide a means for sharing information, resources, ideas and support between people with all types of disabilities.
  • Encourage and support people with disabilities to reach economic independence through opportunities in education, information and employment.
  • Provide information on current legislative issues that affect civil rights, accessibility and the safety of people with disabilities.
  • Encourage voting for whatever candidate supports their own interests.
  • Advance the attitudes, consideration, respect and awareness of the general public toward people with all disabilities, by demonstrating their abilities, talents, skills and capability.
  • Increase self-esteem and strive for perfection in their own manner within their disability.
  • Increase enjoyment of life through sports, recreation and social interaction.

One small section about this organization on my site doesn't do justice to the great things NCSD is doing - Please take a look at www.ncsd.org and become informed about the issues to make a positive change. You can read about all of their latest actions and how to help out or get involved. Email Trish Fink at tfink@ncsd.org if you have any questions about this excellent initiative.
