To introduce myself - I was born in England and raised in Winnipeg. In 1969, I moved to Calgary, with my husband, Peter, where both Christian and his older sister, Sara, were born.
I am now retired, but at the time of Christian's accident I was working at a law firm, and remained there for another four years afterward. I was fortunate that my colleagues offered me a great deal of caring and support. I found that having another place to go, to put my thoughts, was a salvation in the early days. It was also good for Christian and his independence that I wasn't hovering all the time, as we moms are inclined to do. Since retiring, I have enjoyed having more time to garden, to read and to play duplicate bridge. Peter and I both enjoy travelling and entertaining friends and family.
Thanks to my son, Christian Bagg, I have been given the opportunity to address you via this site. I find this very exciting-I am bubbling over with ideas for discussion.
Statistics show that spinal cord injuries happen mostly to the young and the active. I look forward to reaching out to the parents of these young people. Everyone's experience is different, some of you will relate to some of what I have to say, none of you will relate to all of it. However, we do all share a common bond. We have all heard that terrifying word-paralysis.
Our family has always tried, and mostly succeeded, to approach Christian's injury with a realistic and upbeat attitude. Hopefully, I will be able to pass some of our hard learned insight on to you.
